Suzy This sounds like what the first ever Dolly Mixture, our Bafreur, got
as the result of eating too many acid pears when he was free range here
over 6 years ago. It was a fungal infection, and Peter Gurney's site
advised treating the scabs with Gentian Violet - well, you have to pick
off the loose scabs first then treat the skin with the Gentian Violet. It
worked for Bafreur - mind you, we did have to simultaneously limit his
access to acid foods like apples, pears, tomatoes and citrus! Actually,
it was Bafreur's fungal problem which first led me to finding the gpdd -
what a can of worms that opened, as I incidentally discovered that I
should be keeping him with another guinea pig and not the rabbit we had
bought for the purpose, which led to the acquisition of another rabbit,
and another piggie .... and the rest, as they say, is history! Actually,
it might be fascinating to know what led other gpdd-ers to this wonderful
community. Do we all have a particular piggie to thank for that?! Good
luck with Rocky! Debbie and the 8 Dolly Mixtures

"We patronize them for their incompleteness,
for their tragic fate of having taken a form so far below ourselves.
And therein we err, and greatly err.
For the animal shall not be measured by man.
In a world older and more complete than ours
they move finished and complete, gifted
with extensions of the senses we have lost or never attained,
living by voices we shall never hear.
They are not brethren, they are not underlings;
they are other nations, caught with ourselves
in the net of life and time, fellow prisoners
of the splendour and travail of the earth".
