Dear Carole,
Thank you for taking your time to respond to my question about elongated
roots. I have been a member of the CCT for 10 years. I also own Vedra's
book and her hand made dental instruments to keep the mouth open and the
buccal pads separated along with rodent dental ronguers and a dental
rasp. Yesterday I spoke with Vedra about elongated roots. My interest is
in how common this condition occurs and if there is a genetic
predisposition to it. Vedra has seen approximately 100 cases of
elongated roots in over 30 years of practice. She feels that there may
be a genetic component to this condition. I know of only 2 cases that
have been reported in Canadian and American Veterinary Journals.I am
interested in hearing other people's stories about cases of elongated
roots and especially if they have seen it in certain breeds or related
individuals. Vedra explained to me how to feel for it as bumps along the
lower jaws and other signs of the condition include bulging eyes or eyes
that are always tearing. My interest is purely academic. I have never
seen a case of elongated roots in the 24 years that I have been
operating a private cavy rescue home. I have examined hundreds of cavies
teeth both the incisors and the molars.

Thank you once again for responding to my question.
