Hi dee
We have had two sows with conditions like you describe .
One sow Katty, had a nearly bare tummy and sides, this was due to her
being under stress after giving birth to 6 babies (2 where still born),
our vet said part of the problem was hormonal and part of it was her
barbering (gnawing at her fur) , it cleared up in 2 weeks.
The second and more complicated is Hetty. She is prone attacks of UTI
(a bladder infection).
Every time hetty is starting an attack of UTI, we know now because her
tummy starts to look like an extremely bad hair cut, and as it
progresses to different parts of her body , parts that she could not
reach if she where Barbering.
Our vet is of the opinion that this is also hormonal, and said it was
part and parcel of a female pig with down below problems, and not to
worry .
The only thing that we found helpful was nappy rash cream.
Hetty is 100% now after a 2 month infection.
I am not saying that I think Peaches has UTI, It could simply be the
menopause , bit never the less I would take her to the vets , (I always
air in the safe side when it comes to piggy’s )
I would like also to take this opportunity to thank Penny and the
piggyfriends for her suggestion of CYMOLON for UTI, I have not tried or
head of it but I will most certainly give it a try on her next
infection, thanks penny!
Cranberry juice just does
not work for Hetty’s UTI. I know that all
pigs are different.
Yours Dave, Yvonne at PP UK
