Grace, Gus, Babe and Rusty We were so sorry to read of Pork Chop's
departure for The Rainbow Bridge. The fact that she would have become a
SCAMP this month shows what excellent care you must have bestowed upon
her, and we are sure she will have known how very dearly she was loved.
You gave her the greatest yet hardest gift when you made the difficult
decision to help with her final departure, and we are sure she was
grateful to you for that. It is frustrating when vets are unable to help,
like the first one you saw, but you were lucky to have someone who knew
how to perform a piggie autopsy, and it does sound as though there would
have been nothing anyone could do. We hope you are all able to find some
comfort in one another's company, and to overcome your shyness. Some of
the Dolly Mixtures are still shy of their slave, even 3 SCAMPs, but they
overcome their shyness when there is food in the offing! The tamest,
Soulage, has always had an extrovert personality, and has been handled a
lot because of that. None of the three boys are very tame, but that is
because the slave doesn't handle them enough! Please know that we are
thinking of you at this sad time, and wishing you all well. Debbie and
the 8 Dolly Mixtures
"We patronize them for their incompleteness,
for their tragic fate of having taken a form so far below ourselves.
And therein we err, and greatly err.
For the animal shall not be measured by man.
In a world older and more complete than ours
they move finished and complete, gifted
with extensions of the senses we have lost or never attained,
living by voices we shall never hear.
They are not brethren, they are not underlings;
they are other nations, caught with ourselves
in the net of life and time, fellow prisoners
of the splendour and travail of the earth".
